May 30 Windows Live Messenger 8.5 beta is out in the wild. This is what the beta page says "Windows Live Messenger has a slick new look. But it's still got all the features you know and love" May 28 Have been quiet busy lately. In fact had to drop out of the Yosemite plan. Was working away all long weekend :-). That explains my absence here.
Now getting to the point. Shahine blogged about this cool feature in Windows Mobile called Remote Wipe! The story goes something like this:
Mike recently lost his cell phone with all his email, calendar, contacts etc on it. Now that our phones are "smart" they carry so much personal information, it is a big risk to loose one. However, the remote wipe feature can save you. This feature will let you wipe all information on smart phone using Outlook Web Access(OWA).
Just log into OWA and select Wipe my device and the information gets nuked from the phone. Most importantly, you can easily un-wipe it if you find your phone back or get a new phone.

May 18 CoolZ0r blogged about this cloaked bus-stop ad campaign by a Science Alberta Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to increasing science literacy and awareness. I thought it was pretty cool. More... via coolz0r May 17 Take a look at this Now take a look at this
Of course needless to say the whole search results in blue text on white page was Google's. But its good to see the big dog learning from the underdog also ;-) Vista has some great "big" features. But there are so many little things that I discover everyday which makes me go, man this is cool.
Here is one more. Thanks to Nathan this time. Several times you want to select multiple things in a folder that are not contiguous. And we all do it holding the Ctrl-key down. There is an easier way!
In your folder: 1) Click on organize, and select "Folder and Search options 2) Click on "View" and scroll down 3) Select "Use check boxes to select items"
And checkboxes appear next to every item when you hover over it. So very cool .Of course, you cannot have it ON by default. Lot of people may find it intrusive. Gets me thinking: Operating systems by itself is a huge piece of software. So many complexities. Very high fault-tolerance. So many scenarios. And so many intricate features. And yet with all that, keeping your focus to not loose sight of these little Zen like things. Kudos Vista team! via blognewschannel May 16 As you would expect it from any Linux fanboy. It is *sharp* . Linus Torvalds, lead developer of the Linux kernel, has a sharp retort to Microsoft executives' statements in a Fortune magazine article that Linux and other open-source code violate 235 Microsoft patents. "It's certainly a lot more likely that Microsoft violates patents than Linux does," said Torvalds, holder of the Linux trademark. If the source code for Windows could be subjected to the same critical review that Linux has been, Microsoft would find itself in violation of patents held by other companies, said Torvalds. "Basic operating system theory was pretty much done by the end of the 1960s. IBM probably owned thousands of really 'fundamental' patents," Torvalds said in a response to questions submitted by InformationWeek. But he doesn't like any form of patent saber rattling. "The fundamental stuff was done about half a century ago and has long, long since lost any patent protection," he wrote. Microsoft should name the patents that it claims have been violated so the claims can be tested in court or so open-source developers can rewrite code to avoid the violation, Torvalds wrote. "Naming them would make it either clear that Linux isn't infringing at all (which is quite possible, especially if the patents are bad), or would make it possible to avoid infringing by coding around whatever silly thing they claim," he said. "So the whole, 'We have a list and we're not telling you,' itself should tell you something," Torvalds said of Microsoft's stance in the Fortune story. And for good measure, he added: "Don't you think that if Microsoft actually had some really foolproof patent, they'd just tell us and go, 'nyaah, nyaah, nyaah!'" Microsoft would prefer not to actually sue anyone, particularly a Linux user who's also a Microsoft customer. "They'd have to name the patents then, and they're probably happier with the FUD [fear, uncertainty, doubt] than with any lawsuit," Torvalds predicted. via Bink News source:Informationweek May 07 Windows Live Hotmail launched today worldwide. While it comes as no surprise, like Omar says, it is one of those moments when they can say it is done. This means that the beta tag is off. Congratulations to the Hotmail team. via shahine In other news the Windows Live Mail (the desktop client) announced about their next release which is going to bring Outlook Express, Windows Mail (Vista Mail client) and Windows Live Mail Desktop all together in one client which will be called Windows Live Mail!
So for those who are confused. Windows Live Hotmail is the web-based mail service from Microsoft. It is just Hotmail!
Windows Live Mail is a desktop client which can be bring any mail service to your desktop. You can use it with Hotmail or Gmail or Yahoo Mail plus etc. May 04 I was searching for a spa getaway in live maps as a possible gift for a friend, when I saw some blue icons on the map that I had not seen before. Hovering over it, shows up the listing. Check it out.
